Caskets at Walmart?

Thought the fact that Walmart is now selling caskets online sounds like it comes directly from White Noise.

  1. WOW. I find this rather disturbing on many levels...
First off, the whole Walmart enterprise is disturbing in and of itself, so really, the fact that they're selling caskets now only adds to its already freaky-ness.
It kind of doesn't surprise me that Walmart is selling caskets. With Walmart, after all, you can 'Save money! Live better!' (In a casket??!)
It seems like death is becoming an object that you can purchase at lower and lower prices or something. They're trying to make dying as cheap and convenient as possible, and something that you can plan ahead for, which is completely ridiculous, because no matter how "prepared" you are, it's always unexpected.
Which is, I suppose, how it ties into White Noise. Perhaps if they had a Walmart that sold caskets in the book, the characters wouldn't fear death so much. Well, they probably still would, but perhaps it would be less intense if they viewed death related things (such as caskets in Walmarts) regularly. Anyways, this seems completely ridiculous to me; Walmart never ceases to amaze me in its money-making schemes...

  2. I find it hilarious.
Walmart never possessed a moral line- it did what it needed to in order to profit.
But when they stooped down this low, I find it... funny to see their position in the overall scheme of things.
    Well,
    money is money.
